It was more of a warning to see the movie first then read the books - So that there are no build up of expectations.
Unfortunately - The books are modeled after the Catholic faith but it's just a fantasy book. Look at Harry Potter, some groups abhor those series as it leads children that there is magic and witches and warlocks are alive. Those books are meant for entertainment and not be taken seriously.
Take Nikos Kazantzakis's book "The Last Temptation of Christ" : It's about Christ but elaborates on the idea that Christ is just the same as you and me. He portrays Christ as a mere human being with feelings and desires as the next man. Objectively, it makes you ponder on the what if's, as a matter-of-fact the book is romantically written. After reading that book, my Faith is still intact. I take that book as a good read and not to base my Faith on.
I guess what I'm asking, is for you and all those who check your site out, is to have an open mind. Reading a book which goes against ones beliefs would not make you a lesser person. Rather, it helps us see what are other's perspective on those subjects are. |

I've been introduced to Neil Gaiman (pronounced as Gay-man and not Gai-man) by one of my colleagues and I like his writing style. I've yet to read one of his books - something about a man being the son of a demi-god and a god. |

Andy!!! if you haven't read the book by Philip Pullman - don't. If you did, that's ok - Philip Pullman is great at weaving stories (I've read his 'Dark Materials' Trilogy). |
